Burke Urban announced as developer for Mount Barker Catalyst project.

We are excited to announce that Burke Urban Investments have been chosen by the Mount Barker District Council as the developer for the Mount Barker Catalyst Project. The project is set to create a new heart in the city centre as a legacy project for future generations to enjoy.

Mount Barker District Council finalised a competitive bidding process, which presented an opportunity to put forward a proposal to partner with the Council to create a significant and innovative development on the vacant block of land opposite Mt Barker Central.

Mayor Anne Ferguson said “A town square has long been advocated by the community; a place where events and everyday gatherings may take place”.

Mayor Ann Ferguson said, “Burke Urban Investments put forward a compelling proposal that not only delivers significant community and commercial benefits but also showed an appreciation of the broader opportunities this development can have for the town centre, including connections up to Gawler Street and beyond”.

The Mount Barker Catalyst Project offers an opportunity to incorporate community and civic facilities with a range of commercial activities, all of which provide an important economic, employment and place-making boost for Mount Barker and beyond.

The public facilities of the project will trigger significant private investment, with the proposal also including over 4000sqm of office space, as well as flexible space for other civic, educational, hospitality, commercial, residential and cultural opportunities. Flexible retail and commercial tenancy opportunities including professional services on Hutchinson Street, experiential retailing around the town square and pop-up opportunities for emerging businesses and artists.

The project will create both day and night activity, throughout all Four Seasons and a new destination for locals, and a regional tourism attraction.

Mount Barker District Council will now commence a detailed feasibility around the proposal, as well as the drafting of a Heads of Agreement. Community consultation and further design work will be due to commence in early to mid-2021.
