New $50 million residential development, golf course upgrade for Murray Bridge.
A $50 million development will see up to 350 new residential allotments in the heart of Murray Bridge and the town’s golf club upgrade to a par-71 championship course.
Burke Urban today, September 2, launched the first stage of Newbridge, a residential development on the site of the former Murray Bridge Racing Club on the corner of Maurice and Mulgundawah roads.
Located adjacent to the Murray Bridge Golf Club, the development plans feature two new fairways for the club’s course.
The Standard first reported on plans for the development in 2017, before the racing club’s move to its new home at Gifford Hill in 2019.
According to Burke Urban, the flexible masterplan may also include a retirement village and tourist accommodation site, subject to market demand and council consent.
The first stage has the development approval of the Rural City of Murray Bridge and includes 23 hectares with 129 Torrens Title allotments, ranging in size from 412-1061 square metres.
Burke Urban sales and marketing director Olivia Burke said the development had been 10 years in the planning.
“With the Rural City of Murray Bridge experiencing unprecedented growth and so many projects planned for the immediate future, which will jump-start local job growth, we look forward to building a strong community for our future residents of Newbridge,” she said.
Rural City of Murray Bridge Mayor Brenton Lewis welcomed Burke Urban’s announcement and said the “growing regional centre had become a destination of choice, with more people than ever choosing to live, work, and play in Murray Bridge”.
“The timing is perfect to open up a new housing development of this size in the centre of our rural city, to meet housing demand fueled by industry expansion and enterprises such as the Thomas Foods International rebuild,” Mayor Lewis said.
“People are attracted by employment opportunities and a relaxed rural lifestyle by the river, where they can enjoy all the benefits of a thriving regional centre, just a short drive up the freeway from Adelaide.
“Newbridge presents a unique opportunity, offering prime real estate overlooking the golf course – the perfect place to build a dream home, right in the heart of our thriving communities.”
The first 37 allotments of the first stage of the Fairway Release are now on sale and the Newbridge Sales Centre, in the former Murray Bridge Racing Club, will be open in October with civil works commencing in November.
The Murray Bridge Racing Club officially opened its new racing facility at Gifford Hill in August 2019, unveiling their $35 million home on their first official race day.
A par-71 championship course
The Murray Bridge Golf Club has plans to create two new fairways through the centre of Newbridge and transform the golf course into a par-71 championship course.
The expansion of the golf course is a joint venture between Burke Urban, Gifford Hill Pty Ltd, the Murray Bridge Racing Club, and Thoroughbred Racing SA and the land for the new fairways will be donated with an additional $350,000 will be invested into the construction of the fairways.
